Introduction: The term WOSB certification or Women-Owned Small Business is a federal contracting program. It is the goal of the federal government to present award at least five percent of all federal contracting dollars to women-owned small businesses each year. It is one of the most recognized and respected national certifications for women owned businesses in United States. You being a woman entrepreneur should apply for this certification program. As it will help you to expand your small business in long run. To apply for WOSB certification there are some specific criteria you need to fulfil, as discussed below

  • The company you have formed must be qualified as small business based on SBA small business size standards – in this case, the standard of the company will be measured by the employee size of the organization/based on yearly revenue/also can vary depending on your industry code.
  • There should be ownership of 51%, by those women having U.S Citizenship.
  •  Only the women have to look after the operational activities on daily basis.
  • Women can only make any decisions for the company, but one thing to remember – the decision should be a long-term one.
  • In case a woman is working more than scheduled working hours, she should be given the position of the highest-ranking officer of the respective company.

WOSB certification has truly brought growth for women entrepreneurs. The report published by State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, commissioned by American Express – the total number of women owned businesses in United Sates are more than even 13 million. The numbers are growing more than a half-million every year. The revenue earning from these businesses are $1.9 trillion or even more than this. The employment ratio is around 9.4 million people.

Introduction: As on 15 th July, 2020, latest update, the SBA’s portal has started allowing the WOSBs and EDWSOBs to submit the documentations, which are to be verified by SBA.
