What is the Connection Between WBENC Certification and WOSB Certification?
Introduction: Any kind of women oriented or women owned business which has applied for WBENC Certification, they have to apply for WOSB certification simultaneously. WBENC or Women's Business Enterprise National Council, it is a third party approved council, which can certify SBA’s Women Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contracting program.
Eligibility –
- The size of the applicant company must be “small” in as compared to SBA’s size standards for that industry, as identified in 13 CFR 127. It is advisable to follow the lists of NAICS and their size standards for verification.
- Must be owned at least fifty-one percent (51%) unconditionally and directly owned and controlled by one or more U.S. citizenship holder woman.
- Management and daily operations must be under control of women business owners and they are also responsible to take any big decision for the business.
Criteria for CORPORATIONS ONLY:
- Women must get a majority seat of the Board of Directors OR get majority of the Board votes by using weighted voting.
- Women must cover up 51% of the voting power, get majority sit on the Board.
- Please ensure the applicant company is not currently debarred or suspended from Federal Government Contracting. If so then the company will not be eligible for WOSB certification.
WBENC uses a two-part process – First is a thorough review of the documentation presented and the second one is site visit interview with the female owner/s. This is to ensure that the applicant company is eligible enough to meet the WBENC, WOSB Standards.
Any business becomes eligible to compete for federal contracts by joining the WOSB Federal Contracting Program set aside for the program.
Conclusion: The WOSB certification program has multiple avenues in order to receive assistance. Webinars are offered by The WOSB Federal Contracting Program and town halls that cover various topics related to WOSB and EDWOSB (Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business) certification. Though taking part in webinars and town halls are completely voluntary, yet, once you are registered as a participant, from then you will receive invitations and follow-up correspondence from WOSBTraining@sba.gov. automatically.
